Early Art

At this time, I began exploring the use of acrylics through YouTube tutorials, where I enjoyed learning different techniques. Additionally, I love to experiment with different mediums so I would either use regular paint brushes or materials like Q-tips (as shown in some of the flowers) and sponges (as shown in the blue and purple mountain/sky background). Examples of more abstract paintings are shown below.

These three drawings developed my current love for colored pencils. I started by taking inspiration from a drawing I saw online and added my own twist with the background (shown above), exploring gradients in color. I also practiced with art class projects, like the bear, or art club relaxation methods like the different gradients shown.

Through art club, I was also able to experiment with the craft of Edgar Artis, an artist who works with almost any material in order to create incredible fashion designs. This was a really creative project that I wanted to show since I felt it highlighted my ability to incorporate some of my favorite things/ideas (baking and my culture through food) in my art.

Finally, my favorite medium was introduced to me in sixth grade in an assignment to sketch a horse but only use an upside-down reference photo. The goal was to look at images from a different perspective, focusing more on the individual lines rather than the picture as a whole. The result was a much better sketch than I thought I could've done and I ended up loving graphite drawings. We began bigger drawings with shading through half-face projects. We chose any animal we wanted and attempted to draw the other half. I loved this project so much that I chose another animal and did the project a second time on my own (as shown below). We also did a celebrity project (I chose to draw Emma Watson) in which we did a full-face drawing off a reference. This was my first portrait which led to me continuing to draw in highschool.
